Crushing Hard: Velvet

Velvet was just one of the many trends seen on the Fall/Winter 2016 runway shows, but when Fall actually arrived, velvet clothing and accessories quickly claimed center stage on the fashion scene.  From sophisticated to fun and unexpected silhouettes, there so many options that if you buy an item of clothing this season, it will likely be made of velvet.

Perhaps because velvet is a heavy fabric suited to cold weather, it is usually seen in dark, rich tones.  The combination can make an outfit look very dressy and formal.  The dress bellow is on the other end of the spectrum.  The girly silhouette and the pale pink shade emphasize the cozy aspect of velvet instead of the formal and luxurious.

A girl, or gent, can spend a small fortune on a pair of jeans that look like they have been worn since the nineties, the decade that is being sartorially revived this season.  On the other hand, there is no need to deplete one’s children’s college fund in order to look refined this Fall and Winter.  Sure, you can go for an expensive velvet dress, but since that fabric is inherently lux, you can find many well-priced options, like this one.  The warm, cinnamon shade screams Fall and pumpkin spice lattes!
